2017-2018 Boot Preveiw

Just when we thought the boot and binding equation would become easier for everyone, the industry pond had a rock thrown in it and the ripple disturbed the seemingly calm water. Don’t worry, it wasn’t a huge rock. Enter Fischer and Rossignol proprietary boot soles, IFP (Integrated Fixation Plate) and Turnamic® bindings. For the ’17-’18 season the big news in boots is the new look and feel of the Rossignol and Fischer boot lines. You can nd more about that in the Turnamic® article below and in our boot, binding and ski descriptions on subsequent pages.

The other big change you will notice this season is the Salomon boot line. With the new S/Race skate, classic, pursuit, and Vitane classic models as well as the absence of the old S/Lab and Vitane Pro models—we’re honestly excited about the Salomon boots. The sleek black and blue design, lighter weights, new zipper orientation (on the skate boot) and the retained wonderfully cushy Salomon feel, these will be great for any skiers looking to remain on the SNS system or NNN/Turnamic/Prolink users trying a new/old brand with Prolink soles. The newly redesigned all carbon double boot S/Lab Carbon skate has come down in price and look and feel great this year as well. These should be high on the list of boots to consider for those who need and expect the very best.

Alpina has a couple minor updates with the ESK Pro having new graphics as well as a slimmer, lighter cuff and reinforced chassis. Also updated are the RSK and RCL (comfortably accommodating, warm, “coach’s” boots)

Lastly, Madshus shakes things up with new graphics to match the top of the line Super Nano and an all-new Nano Carbon skate boot which has a completely new and stiffer chassis, sole and graphics. The t remains similar but performance changes in a positive way.

So, with the new products available for this season we are still headed in the direction of an industry-wide compatible binding/boot system with some added color, flare, functionality, and a new name to become familiar with.
