Test Discussion

The snow should be mostly new natural snow – with possible snow during the race. The snow should be very humid, as this looks to be a wetter storm – overnight temps will not be that low. Skigo waxes have a higher fluoro content and work well in these conditions. If the snow is colder and drier than expected, Holmenkol race mix mid might run fast. If it is raining/turning to snow, then Skigo Yellow HF might be the ticket.

For fluoro powder – the Holmenkol Mid08 powders work really well in newer/dry snow conditions (Race Powder Mid is the new name for Mid08 powder). Ski*Go C105  powder might work as well – especially if the snow is wetter.

For topcoats – again Holmenkol Mid08 block is best in newer snow. If the snow is wetter, Ski*Go C22 or C105 block might run well. It is always best to try topcoats out the day of the race.

The snow might be pretty soft – so a softer flexing ski might be preferred (softer flex gives more float and control, but a stiffer ski can prove to be faster). As for structure, a linear grind will probably work best – unless it is really wet – then go with a heavy structure.

note: BNS imports Holmenkol and SkiGo waxes, and also sells waxes from Swix, Toko, Rode, Solda, Rex, Guru, Innovax, Magnar and others. We search for the fastest waxes for our customers and our testing is professional, objective and transparent. We make our best effort to test what we think is the best from each brand.  However, given that we are testing more options from Holmenkol and SkiGo, there is a bias toward those brands.  With this full disclosure, you can assess the legitimacy of our testing yourself. Visit Swix and Toko for their official recommendations. If you have any questions please contact us.
